Laughing Water Ranch is nestled in a beautiful mountain valley just west of Glacier National Park. We take pride in our gentle, friendly horses and great riding program, though we caution those who may be expecting riding clinic type instruction. Our aim is to get you up and in the saddle to confidently enjoy our great mountain scenery from the back of a horse. We have western riding orientation Sunday evening, followed by basic trail riding instruction Monday morning with a short ride that afternoon. The riding is scenic trail riding in groups of 2 to 6 persons plus a guide. You have the option of a short ride or a long ride Tuesday - Friday, except for Wednesday rafting day. We want to help you realize your vacation dreams. Our trails through aromatic pine forests and over exhilarating mountain trails encompass all levels of riding ability.
Trails cover hundreds of acres in the mountainous Kootenai National Forest, so you can easily enjoy different scenery each day. Groups are organized by family or ability level.
As you can see from our Activities Schedule there's plenty to do, but don't feel like you have to do it all!
Call to inquire about weight restrictions for riders over 250 lbs.
We are proud of our herd. We have approximately 50 head at the Ranch during the main summer season. They cover all shapes, sizes, breeds and temperament. Most of them are geldings because of their steady temperament. Most are mixed breeds, with a lot of Quarter Horse and Appaloosa in the herd. We have Belgian, Percheron, Morgan, and Arabian. Our wranglers will look at your experience levels and sizes that you provide on your pre-arrival form before you arrive and will hook you up with the right horse. We can't honor requests for color, but if you want a slow or aggressive horse we will do our best. You will remain with the same horse all week so that you can get to know and love each other. Switching out in the middle of the week is done on a case by case basis for a good reason.
Scrumptious BBQ ribs, steaks and trout fish fries will tempt your palette. On Italian and Mexican nights we serve ethnic food as well. The personal touch extends to cakes and pies and celebrations of birthdays and holidays.
Though the LW Ranch does not have a liquor license, you're welcome to bring what you like.
